Rayovo is the largest of all the 'spa villages' having the highest population and most facilities. Because of this, it is has become popular with holiday home seekers who wish to find a property close to ski regions and with summer activities too. Not only is that, but being surrounded by miles of completely unspoilt mountain meadows, the village highly picturesque.

As with the majority of villages in this area, but particularly with this region, it is easy to leave the village and walk for miles, breathing in the fresh air and not see anyone except wildlife. It is not many places where one can do that very often but in this region, it is one of the many activities available making the place unique and a joy to visit!

The village is located on the Palakaria River which leads straight to Lake Iskar (only 20kms away by road and 12kms cross country). This river is favoured by fishing enthusiasts because due to the very low levels of pollution, trout and other such fish can be found in abundance. As soon as the warmer weather starts and even in winter, die hard fishing enthusiasts can be found along side the river, enjoying the peaceful scenery and warm weather.

An interesting landmark in the village is large knoll or hill on the edge. It dates back to Roman times and on the flat terrain, does stick out like a sore thumb. It is said that it was constructed to hold a watch tower or small castle back in Roman time to watch for invaders coming from the Vitosha mountains/Sofia side.

There are shops (primarily food shops) and around three cafes in the village. Locals selling vegetable produce and of course, potatoes, can also be found close by so getting food and the basic amenities is not a problem. The locals are known for being friendly and helpful and life is very laid back in this charming village.

Public transport is available with buses going to Samokov (15kms) and to Sapareva Banya (25kms away). Borovets ski resort is around 25kms away and is very easily accessible by main road. As with just about villages in the area, the roads are kept clear in winter time. Some of the conditions of the roads aren't great but are steadily being improved. The village is well located off the main Samokov- Sapareva Banya road and you will need to go the small village of Prodanovtsi to access it.
